RESUS Guidelines 2021
RESUS 2015

ERC Guidelines 2021.  The 2021 gudelines which run to February 2024,  highlight the critical importance of the interactions between the emergency medical dispatcher (999/112), the bystander who provides CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and the timely deployment of an AED (automatic external defibrillator).  An effective co-ordinated community response that draws these elements together is key to improving survival from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

Lifesaver Crisis Simulator
Lifesaver

Lifesaver is a crisis simulator that fuses interactivity and live-action film to teach CPR in a new way on a computer, smartphone or tablet. For example, when "Jake" collapses from a heart attack, you are questioned about what to do at each step – with a clock running to represent the need to respond quickly to prevent brain damage or death. When it comes time to administer CPR, you're prompted to swipe your tablet or phone up and down in the air in the speed of the chest compressions. You can see and hear the patient's chest moving and the effort needed to do the compressions as the app tells you if you're going too fast or too slow.

Legal Status Update

There is understandable concern that individuals who attempt to resuscitate someone in astate of cardiopulmonary arrest may be at risk of having a claim brought against them if that person suffers harm as a result of their intervention. The advent of the automated external defibrillator (AED) has heightened this anxiety because these devices are increasingly used by members of the lay public who have not had the benefit of formal medical training.

BHF Pocket CPR Ap

Practice Hands-only CPR with the 'BHF PocketCPR' app for Android and iPhone.

The free app explains how to carry out hands only cpr on someone who is not responsive and not breathing or not breathing normally using hard and fast chest compressions.

The app also allows you to practice by making use of accelerometer hardware built into most smartphones. It means your mobile can measure the rate and depth of practice compressions, telling you if they need to do the compressions faster or slower; or whether they should push harder or softer. Click on Vinnies image to visit the BHF website and download the Pocket CPR Ap.
